Within this week and last week I have been working upon creating a sculpture to show ideas of anxiety surrounding the breach of personal space. Using skin coloured fabric tubes which I have made to visually show people surrounded by dripping latex. The latex is to show ideas of nausea, presenting itself as bile/vomit. The tubes took a week of sewing and some of the fabrics were dyed with turmeric to achieve a skin tone. The latex is splattered upon these tubes once hung up - all though it looks a very pale colour after about three weeks the latex will age to the brown bile colour which I desire. This translucent brown is very similar to the appearance of bile, piled up all around to show an explosion of nausea and the raw emotions of anxiety. Creating a grotesque sculpture towards viewers in presenting the ideas of discomfort caused by lack of personal space. Within my research I found that personal space was one of the main themes o f discomfort for many. Making them feel violated, disrespected, uncomfortable and unsettled. Which is the emotions which I have used when creating this piece to show those who do not experience this discomfort the truth of emotions.
So far this piece has been successful, on Thursday I will add more layers of latex and think about my nexts steps/moving forward from the creation of this sculpture. Hopefully by next week the latex should be fully set to my desired colour.
After looking into some new artists and reading some articles I have drawn some ideas.
I would like my work to become more interactive for audiences which is what inspired a lot of these pieces. Forcing the anxiety/disgust on audience.
